Abstract
SOCİAL AND RELİGİOUS LİFE IN HOPA: EXAMPLE OF LAZ AND HEMSHIN PEOPLE
In this study, the socio-cultural and religious life of the Laz and Hemshin people living in the Hopa district of Artvin province was examined within the theoretical, practical and sociological descriptions of the religious experience typified by Joachim Wach. In the questionnaire designed to explain religion-society, there are questions about how people believe Islam’s religion in terms of beliefs, how often perform various worship, and how religion affects their social lives. This questionnaire has been applied to 258 people over 18 years olh who are reached by snowball sampling method. As a result of the research, it is understood that Laz and Hemshin ethnic groups have distinctive differences in their social and religious life according to their intra-group dynamics.
