Abstract
A Metaphor Falling Victim for a Letter in the Book of Dede Korkut
Being an old text type and also of an epic genre "The Book of Dede Korkut? requires hard and creative work from the translators. We found out different translation mistakes in these three English translations of "the Book of Dede Korkut? and one of these translation mistakes attracts more interest as a result of the misspelling in the source text.
According to the Old Turkic noun case formation the omission of the letter ?n? in the metaphor "yeninden toğanın öldüreyin" leads to a mistake in the English translations of the Book of Dede Korkut and as a result of it a metaphor ?I will kill falcons of the warriors in the their own fists? becomes ?I will kill a newly born babies of the enemy?. In the article we will analyze this mistake both from linguistic and non-linguistic point of view.
